Hamilton’s annual Convocation took place on August 28th in Wellin Hall, bringing togethermembers of the administration, faculty and students for the opening of the college’s 194th year. After being introduced by John H. O’Neill, Edmund A. LeFevre Professor of English, President Joan Hinde Stewart welcomed new and returning students alike to the new academic year.
President Stewart then ceded the podium to Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty David C. Paris, who spoke at length about the nature of the college as a “reality-based community.” Dean Paris addressed the frequently discussed dichotomy between “reality” and the academic world, stating that the so-called real world is in fact estranged from reality, mentioning the distorted views often put forth in politics and talk shows. He suggested that the college has a responsibility to pursue truth and objectivity, which he distinguished carefully from “polite neutrality,” and a right to venture into the political realm.
Dean Paris also stated that civility must characterize the manner in which the Hamilton community conducts itself, defining it as the ability to disagree in a way that facilitates meaningful dialogue. Alluding to the controversy last spring over inviting University of Colorado Professor Ward Churchill to speak on campus, Dean Paris maintained that it is the college’s business to engage ideas to understand reality, and that freedom of thought and opinion are essential for progress.
After Dean Paris concluded his remarks, President Stewart introduced Dean of Students Nancy Thompson, who began by thanking Resident Advisors, Orientation Leaders, and Adirondack Adventure leaders for their recent efforts in welcoming the class of 2009. Dean Thompson then spoke about her hobby as a beekeeper, citing her observation of bees pollinating flowers as an example of leaving things and places better than how one finds them. She noted that the each member of the Hamilton community has a role to play and unique experience and talent to bring to the school, forming an integral part of the school’s academic and social fabric.
President Stewart followed Dean Thompson’s comments by naming the recipients of prize and achievement scholarships, awarded to returning students for their exemplary work in the previous year. She then addressed the topic of civility in greater detail, explaining that civility finds expression chiefly through good manners. President Stewart said that civility, respect and decency toward others allow diverse members to coexist peacefully in a society.
She noted that manners hold great importance in campus life, saying that they generate a dynamic of understanding, growth, and tolerance. Such a dynamic is crucial on a college campus, according to President Stewart, who added that civil dialogue is the form of rational exchange to which we must aspire as members of an academic community.
The ceremony was followed by an all-campus picnic at the McEwen breezeway.

Lichen planus is a fairly uncommon skin disorder. There is no known cause for this condition and there is no cure. It is a theory that an immune disorder caused by an infection or allergic reaction to certain medicines causes the inflammatory cells to mistake skin cells for foreign cells and it attacks them. Thus leaving lesions on the skin. The lesions that are left by Lichen planus often appear on the insides of wrists, on the ankles, on the front of the legs and the lower back and neck. Less often they appear on the gentiles and in the mouth. The outbreaks can last for months or even years in most cases. The outbreaks can last longer if they are on the gentiles or in the mouth. These lesions look different from psoriasis, Lichen planus have more of a pattern to them that are lacy white or reticulate that is called Wickham’s striae.
Lichen planus is a chronic skin condition. Meaning that it is reoccurring. You may find raised skin that is colored brown to black and very itchy with an irregular shape (usually rectangular or polygonal). You may also see reddish-purple bumps that appear flat topped and shiny. The shininess is due to a very small scale like substance. Like any other rash the bumps start of in a small area and often spread to any other part of the body. Mostly the limbs are affected first but not all the time. The symptoms of Lichen planus include: small pink or purple bumps, raised itch skin, rash or ulcers in the mouth and blue areas on the tongue and/or cheeks, gentile itch and rash, rectum itching.
Lichen Planopilaris is the specific name given to lichen planus where hair lose is involved (most often the head). Lichen Planopilaris can cause permanent, scarring alopecia. 40% of scarring alopecia cases doctors will see are due to lichen planopilaris. Lichen planopilaris usually pops up in middle aged adults, but there are cases of lichen planopilaris reported as young as 13 years old. Lichen planopilaris usually resolves without treatment, but can recur years later
Homeopathy Lichenplanopilaris: The science of using homeopathic methods to treat Lichen planus on the scalp. The theory behind using Homeopathy to fight Lichen planus is that treating the skin condition externally does not work. Homeopathy treats it internally. Homeopathic theories state that the cause of any external disorder or condition is that there is an internal imbalance. So by treating the internal imbalance it helps with the external condition. So instead of using creams and rubs to help with this ailment try using oral medicines. There are many homeopathic treatments for Lichen planus. The homeopathic Lichen planus therapy is determined by a lengthy examination from a doctor. The exam will possibly include much of the following: family and personal history, emotional make-up, eating habits, lifestyle, and personality.
Some oral homeopathy Lichen planus medicines are Sulfur, Arsenicum and Borax (mainly for the mouth). When using homeopathic methods the use of external treatments are usually forbidden because homeopathic doctors believe in using the inside to help the outside.

New Zealand, who were give a green signal by their federation Sunday, will arrive here Tuesday along with other participating teams. New Zealand’s star striker Simon Childe, however, pulled out at the last minute, citing security concerns.
After a six-hour drive from the Wagah border the 18-man Pakistan squad was received and garlanded at the Ambedkar Bus Terminal in South Delhi by the Pakistani high commission and Hockey India (HI). They were escorted from the Wagah border with unprecedented security cover. It is Pakistan’s first official sporting contact in India after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

“We were the first team to say that we are satisfied with the security arrangements provided by the Indian government,” he said.
“Terrorism is a global issue and it is not specific to India and Pakistan. India is a safe place for the World Cup,” Bajwa said.

Sales clerks who stand behind the counter gabbing to friends and ignoring the customer in front of them; product return personnel who refuse to honor their store’s return policy; bank employees who get surly and defensive when questioned about possible errors on a depositor’s bank statement.
These slights and others can cost a business thousands in lost revenues and even the loss of their reputation in the community. Customers who have been treated rudely or who see themselves as having been cheated or ripped off in some way are likely to vote with their feet, walking out of a business and in the door of a similar business down the street that presents itself as more welcoming. Even more serious, customers who see themselves as slighted generally tell other people, which can impact a business’s reputation very quickly. Once tarnished, a company’s public reputation is very hard to repair.
Proper hiring and training of customer service personnel is paramount. Employees who enjoy interacting with customers and who genuinely want to help resolve problems are a valuable asset to a business. Beyond that, company customer return policies and problem resolution procedures must make it easy for employees to make things right for the customer; the most enthusiastic, dedicated employees in the world aren’t going to be wholly effective if company policies work against them in their dealing with the customer. The success of any business depends on its relationship with its customers; and the relationship with its customers depends on the employees who interact with them on a daily basis. Hire the right people and give them every tool available to serve customer needs efficiently, respectfully, and well, and the result will have a powerfully positive impact on the bottom line.

Refinance auto loans allow you to pay off your auto loans that currently exist. Look at it as a mortgage refinance. However, they have a faster and simpler process. This is how it works. Your lender pays off the loan that you owe and your vehicle?s title is then transferred to the lender.
In order to answer your question of why should you refinance auto loans, you must understand consumers refinance. Normally, everyone wants to get a lower interest rate so that they could also reduce their interest costs. Or they do this so that they could lower the payments they make each month. Refinance auto loans can reach very low levels, therefore the consumers are making the most out of this refinancing process.
If you?re wondering where to find these types of loans, you have to ask yourself what your goals are. If your main goal is to lessen the interest that you?re paying for, then you might want to take into consideration loans that have the same term or a reduced term as your existing one.
If your goal is to have a smaller payment, then you might want to extend the term that is left on your existing loan. This might increase the interest that you pay for overall. Just do the math and see where you can save more and which one will be more convenient for you.
If you?re also wondering if there are fees that are associated with refinance auto loans, well, the standard transfer usually amounts to $5 to $10. Then there are the state re-registration fees which usually amount to $5 to $75.
These may vary depending on your lender and the state you are in. Just make sure that you check with your existing lender if there any pre-payment fees. This could affect your decision whether you opt for refinance auto loans or not.
With the recent global warming problem facing the world, different agencies and sectors of the communities are doing their share to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. Different industries are making great leaps in the production of alternative fuel which is projected to replace fossil fuels in the near future. After all, the latter is not only a non-renewable source of energy but it is also a source of greenhouse gases.
Car manufacturers are also doing their share by investing in the development of new technologies which will allow the use of alternative fuels on vehicles. These car makers have tied up with other companies to further expand the research and development in terms of perfecting alternative fuel use for vehicles. Even private individuals are helping this cause by donating substantial amount of funds and other means of help to facilities that conduct study on the use of alternative fuels in the future. Governments all over the world are also joining the battle to save the Earth. Recently the Bush administration awards a cost-share grant to Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) through the Department of Energy.
The grants will be used by BIO in the construction of new commercial biorefineries. Experts in the field view the construction of the said facilities as a major step in the commercialization of alternative fuels. The refineries will produce ethanol, chemicals, and other bio-based products from cellulose.
Jim Greenwood, the President of BIO, thanked Department of Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman and the Bush administration in his statement: “Skeptics have been saying that commercialization of cellulosic technologies for ethanol production is years away, but the technology for production of ethanol from cellulosic crop residues is ready now. The grants announced today by Secretary Bodman will help bring more ethanol motor fuel to the pump within the next few years, helping to reduce both our reliance on imported oil and our emission of greenhouse gases. The Bush administration’s actions today underscore how public policies such as grants and incentives can accelerate the development of new biofuels technologies and the production of large volumes of alternative fuels. We are grateful for the President’s decisive leadership in this important issue. This is a win for the consumer, for our rural economies and for our environment.”
The grants will help the widespread use of alternative fuels on flex-fuel vehicles. This will make vehicles in the nation’s roads cleaner and safer to the environment and to people. The consumers will benefit greatly from this endeavor since the use of alternative fuel will also mean lower cost of fuel, and their car’s fuel efficiency will be much greater, especially if fitted with aftermarket parts like a Toyota cold air intake system.
The award is the implementation of Section 932 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The policy is aimed to the funding of facilities that produce alternative fuels from biomass. The grants will be used not only to create new facilities but also to expand existing facilities which will enable them to produce larger amounts of ethanol for commercial use.
“The construction of large-scale biorefineries to convert cellulosic biomass to ethanol and other useful consumer products is a critical step toward bringing recent industrial biotech breakthroughs top the market,” says Brent Erickson, the Executive Vice President of BIO’s Industrial and Environmental Section. “The demonstration biorefineries built with today’s announced grants will help rapidly advance the learning curve, reduce the costs, and increase the efficiency of producing ethanol from cellulose,” Erickson further added.
With the grants, the administration shows that they are indeed serious in the development of alternative fuels. This also shows that they are committed to bring this technology to the public as soon as possible.
